Abstract
The study included eight patients in whom covering of gingival recession was performed with a double lateral bridging flap combined
with a free gingival graft. The conditions for inclusion into the study were general good health and gingival recession on the facial side o f the tooth with no signs of inflammation, and with preserved interdental alveolar bone.In these 8 patients, gingival recession was diagnosed in a total of 21 teeth, their facial root surface being exposed and covered by our own modification of a »bridge« flap combined with a free gingival graft. By this intervention, we reduced the distance between the gingival margin and the enamel-cement junction from the pre-operative value o f 2.88 mm to about 1 mm (p < 0.0001). After 12 months, despite flap contraction, a statistically significant reduction o f recession of about 1.5 mm was observed to persist.
