The Prevalence of Taurodontism in Croatian Population

Abstract

The purpose o f the present work was to establish prevalence o f taurodontism in Croatian common population. The study was carried in the sample o f 678 subjects; 339 males and 339 females. Taurodontism has been diagnosed on the basis o f methods proposed by Jorgenson et al, 1982, and Shifman and Chanannel, 1978. Taurodont teeth were found in 6 out o f 579 mandibular m olars within the sample o f 339 males, and in 12 out o f 894 mandibular molars within the sample o f 339 females. A ll affected teeth were hypotaurodont. The frequency o f taurodontism in normal Croatian population was 2,65%. The oberved prevalence o f taurodontism in Croatian population was on the level very close to the other recent Caucasian populations.
