Abstract

The application of solitary crowns depends on several factors. The purpose of this study was to establish the relation o f frequency of the most constructed kind of crowns according to the age of the patients. By random selection of 20% o f registrated cards from all patients at the Department for Fixed prosthodontics, School of Dentistry in Zagreb, in the period from 1985.-91. it has been established that in 1606 patients (983 female and 643 male) 3224 solitary crowns were constructed (veneer, full metal and acrylic crowns). Through testing, the observed frequencies for each age groups (x2-test) have been evaluated, and it was found that frequencies of applied mentioned kind of crowns depend on age of individuals, both sexes. In our population, the acrylic crowns have been intensively constructed in the age till twenty, but the greatest frequencies for veneer and full metal crowns have been observed in the age from 56 - 65. By comparing our results with the data of other authors, we can see a noticeable displace o f the frequency of solitary crowns closer to the older groups o f patients.
