Abstract

Ožegović is a common family name in Koprivnica-Križevci County. The Ožegovićs from Križevci entered history, but those from Kopri¬vnica, in spite of being prominent in political, administrative, cultural and social life of their town until World War Two, remained widely unknown. The work describes the Koprivnica Ožegovićs, mainly Martin Ožegović and his sons Dušan and Mita but does not mention much Ivka Ožegović who was the wife of Ljudevit (Lewis) Ožegović of Križevci.
The Ožegovićs belonged to a branch that adopted the Yugoslav idea and because of their belief they went through difficult times, primarily the first Koprivnica journalist Dušan Ožegović who barely survived.
It can be concluded that the three Ožegovićs left traces in the history of Koprivnica. Martin was active in economic aspect, whereas Dušan and Mita enhanced cultural life. All of them were affected by current political events but not all could cope with them successfully. Their influence on Koprivnica cannot be neglected and therefore we think their names should be remembered in both towns, Koprivnica and Križevci, where the Ožegovićs of Barlabaševac lived.
