The application of diagnostics as the basis for condition based maintenance on the example of a car engine

Abstract

The paper adequately explains the role of maintenance in the lifetime of technical systems. Preventive maintenance methods, or the methods of preventive condition based maintenance, are specifically explained. The role and the position of diagnostics in these methods are emphasised. In the experimental part, the authors show only one segment of the application of diagnostics on a car and its engine.
