Abstract

Every dentist must be aware of the fact that local anesthetic or
vasoconstrictor may interact with other drugs the patient might already be taking. The safe use of local anesthetics and vasoconstrictors will depend on understanding of drug actions and mechanisms by which drugs can interact (summarised in the tables). Taking a complete medical history and familarity with pharmacologic actions of individual drugs are usually sufficient for the dentist to predict iatrogenic responses associated with multiple drug usage.

Keywords

drug interaction; local anesthetics; sympathomimetics
