Abstract

Simulation is, among other things, a quantitative method mostly used in solving problems connected with situations whose realisation is completely stochastic. Simulation represents an approach to the operative problem solving, but the parameters for a specific situation problem in a certain system should be defined. Measured or registered parameters are then inserted into the previously defined system’s model, which is the result of a conceptual design of a model/system which is created upon the theory of systems and historical facts on the system. However, it should be mentioned that simulation does not provide a practical solution, but the information which is used as a backup for managing and decision making. This paper presents a simulation model of a bus station, or ticket-offices to be more precise, of a public communal company Autotrolej PLC, Rijeka which has two ticket-offices in Rijeka. Autotrolej PLC Rijeka provides transportation on 43 routes with the total length of 636 km by connecting 12 cities and municipalities with the county centre (City of Rijeka). It transports 35,000,000 passengers annually and covers more than 10,000,000 km. Entry data for the preparation of the simulation/computer model has been generated in the offices of Autotrolej where the ticket-offices are
located. Collected data has helped us prepare the system’s model. Since the system has a discreet character with the serviceable spots where queues emerge, a model of the observed system has been developed. The researchers have measured the time of arrivals and departures of the services’ users, the time spent waiting, and the time of performing the service itself. The measured values have been presented on the graphs.
