Abstract

The author reports on chronology and data assembling methods of harmoniums in the period from 1971 to 1975 in Dalmatia including the hinterland and islands. The assembled data were systematized according to localities as to trace the harmoniums spread on that area in the seventies of the last century. He comments on the fact that the number of the found harmoniums is striking and concludes that this instrument has had a strong influence on musical practice in this region in the second half of the 19th and in the 20th centuries up to the emergence of modern electronic instruments. The harmonium hastened the changes in liturgical musical practice and especially in rural areas where a traditional way of singing had been deep-rooted. The harmonium improved the interpretation and helped repertoire spread but at the same time it had impact on neglecting traditional musical legacy and contributed to repertoire equation, i.e. musical practice globalization.
