Abstract

In nowadays information and communication market, the demands for constantly greater data transmission speeds become more prominent. Considering the requirements of telecommunication services users, computer, IT and multimedia systems of medium and large mobility require large bandwidth. Growth in the trends of multimedia content use in these systems will soon bring existing telecommunication data transmission rates to the limits of physical possibility. Radio-frequency spectrum is limited, and the number of users is increasing significantly. One of more and more realistic possibilities of replacing radio-communication connections is a wireless optical connection. This paper describes the features and the use of the technology of fourth generation wireless optical communication systems. Possible improvements and solutions to some of the problems that occur when using visible light as a medium for data transmission are presented.
