Abstract

Decresed activity of the immune system leads to activation of physiological flora to opportune infections. As the oral cavity is the beginning of the digestive tract it is full of microorganisms, so it is logical to find the first symptoms of AIDS here in the oral cavity,
We examined 18 hospitalised patients infected with the AIDS virus and their Hospital forms in the Clinic for Infective Diseases »dr Fran Mihaljević« in Zagreb, from 1986-1988. In 89% of 18 infected patients had an oral candidiasis, in 28% of cases xerostomia was present, 17% of patients had herpes symplex infections and other changes appeared only in small persentages: Kaposi sarkoma, ANUG, haemorrhagiae and aphthae, only 6%.
