Abstract

Current investigations have shown the best clinical results in therapy
of deep periodontal pockets to be achieved by a modifed Widman’s procedure. Presentation is made of the results obtained in the treatment of patients with advanced forms of progressive periodontal disease employing this method in the regions where periodontal pockets of more than 6 mm had remained after a two-month hygienic phase. The results obtained were apparent, manifesting as a mean decrease in the pocket depth of 2.7 mm and an increase in the clinical level of attachment. These results demonstrate that using this method in the treatment of chronic periodontitis, the improvement thus attained can be maintained during a prolonged period of time.
