Abstract
The study carried out in 210 children from Međimurje, aged 4 and 5 years, was perfomed at the Čakovec Medical Center. Endogenous fluoridation was applied in 141 children, whereas the control group consisted of 59 children. The preparation Fluonatril, produced by Belupo, was chosen for endogenous fluoridation. The preparation was continuosluy applied on a daily basis in pregnant women from the fourth month of pregnancy to the end of the lactation period, and in children up to the age of six months. At the age of 4 and 5 years, the children underwent systematic check-ups with the registration of their dental status. Educational, hygienic and biological prevention was effectuated by a public-health nurse in collaboration with a dentist. On the basis of the results obtained in this study, a decrease in both the frequency and intensity of caries in the deciduous teeth of the fluoridated group was observed. The differences in the growth of dmf teeth during a one-year period were 81.8% and 45.0% in the children aged 4 and 5 years, respectively.
