Abstract

The study was carried out in a sample consisting of 57 examinees. The class I occlusion according to Angle was present in all the subjects. No sings of a stomatognathic system dysfunction were detected either in case histories or at the time of the study. The extent of the mandibiullar shift from the position of the centric jaw into maximalli intercusplidation relation was measured. The relation between the condyle and glenoid fossa in the two positions of the mandible was also determined. The centric position of the mandible was fixed using the Lucia method. The temporomandibular articulations were examined by means of linear tomography. The values of the shift of the mandible from the maximal intercuspation into the centric poslition ranged from 0 to 1.8 mm. By using the method of linear tomography, in the centric relation the condyles were found to be more distally and cramially situated when compared to their position in the maximal intercuspation relation.
