Abstract
An epidemiological study of the oral disease prevalence was carried
out in a typical population sample of th Labin comimume, in anattemptto analyze the oral health status and point to the treatment required. The standards and methods recommended by the World Heallth Organization, the CPlTN — and DMF-indices in particular, were used for the oral health reigistration. The results obtained reveal the prevalence of periodontal diseases, dental caries and dentofacial anomalies in both children and adults. The onset of gingivitis occurs at an early age. Inflammatory changes of the gingiva, involving more than three sextants person, were found in more than 80% of the 12-year-old chiildren whereas generalized periodontitis was present in 90% of adults aged 35— 44 years. Such a periodontal tissue status requires an adequate treatment. Active caries was established in 70% of the children aged 12. The DMF index for the population of that age was 6, with 4 treated and 2 carious teeth. The adult population aged 35— 44 was found to have 9 extracted, 5 treated and 2 carious teeth. In the 12-year-old chiildren, dentofaoial anomalies were registered in 48% of cases, the orthodontic treatment being necessary in 32% of the children.
