Abstract

The article deals with the office of Church leadership. A carrying out of this office has become much more complex and demanding, mainly due to the shortage of priests and the development of contemporary democratic society. Although the area of leadership is an object of study of an autonomous scientific discipline of management, the Church cannot simply apply the insights of that discipline in its own practice. Therefore, the author aims to investigate in this article the reality of leadership in the Church. She begins by presenting a few insights on leadership from the area of management, followed by insights from the Scripture, documents of the Second Vatican Council and the more recent Church documents. After that, the author presents the results of the study on carrying out the office of Church leadership in German speaking countries and in Slovenia. These results are, finally, interpreted in light of the aforementioned sources and some guidelines for the office of leadership in the future Church practice are given.
