Abstract

The author evaluates the importance of the abstract, its role in the system of scientific information and its significance in selective secondary and tertiary publications. The abstract must be informative for original articles and should contain the purpose of the investigation, materials and methods, and a succinct presentation of the results and conclusions. An indicative or descriptive abstract is suitable only for review articles. Essential elements of an investigation can be more readily included in the system of scientific information if the abstract is well written and informative. Furthermore a good abstract alleviates the abstracting and indexing of the publication.
