Abstract

Microbiological analyzes were performed on 83 samples of improperly filled root canals, in the teeth with Parodontitis chronica. The fillings were taken out mechanically, without any medicaments. The samples were taken by means of dry paper sticks. Microbiological analyses were performed by standard microbiological techniques. Microorganisms were isolated in exacerbated and nonexacerbated apical chronical cases of periodontal disease. They were also isolated in cases with antiseptic fillings which proves that they do not prevent infection of the canal. A total of 40 types were
isolated. In three cases strict anaerob Lactobacillus was isolated. The most frequent isolate was Streptococcus faecalis var. faecalis, which was found in all types of fillings (20 times). It was also isolated in two cases o f unsuccessful endodontic treatment.
