Abstract

Gingival fluid is an inflammatory exudate originating from serum, which is due to inflammatory processes in the periodontal tissue. The quantity and structure of this exudate depends on the permeability of the epithelium and small, blood vessels in gingiva, as well as on the pathological condition of the-tissue through which this exudate passes to the periodontal pocket. The author describes, a number of biochemical substances in gingival fluid, and their possible role in biochemical-pathogenetical processes occurring in the periodontal tissue and their possible role in the defence of the marginal periodontal tissue.
