Abstract

The authors used internal implants in auto-transplantation of teeth. In the preliminary stage they based their work on results received with internal implants in apicoectomy and replantation. Their intention was to prolong the life-span of the transplanted tooth. Indications and operative technique are explained in detail. In this context they performed a series of transplantations of retained or impacted teeth. The teeth were transplanted into existing alveolar sockets of left by teeth just extracted, or in art if Wally made sockets in the toothless part of the alveolar ridge, or where alveolar sockets did not exist and could not be formed. The first alternative is the most favourable and requires only adaptation of the existing alveolar socket to the length and circumference of the transplanted tooth. In the second alternative a larger operative intervention is necessary to form a new socket in the alveolar ridge. The third alternative is the most unfavourable as it is necessary to transplant the tooth into an empty space. That it is to say that the retained tooth is localized in such a way that its extraction necessitates removal of the bone at the location of the future socket, or where cystic lesion has destroyed the bone. In this case the authors filled the space in the bone with sponge-like Resorbable material and the imobilization of the tooth was longer-lasting. The results were exceptionally good and showed that internal implants in autotransplantation of the teeth prolongs the life of the transplanted tooth.
