Abstract
During the last fifteen years, since 1960 when Meiman has built his first optical maser, quantum generator—laser, that class of amplifiers and oscillators has been so thoroughly perfected, that we find their application in all fields of human activity. Lasers are more and more used in medicine for destruction of tumors, or in a form of laser's s knife, that does hold for bloodless interventions on very vascularised organs, and for a series of very delicate operations. There was a number of attempts to introduce a laser in a field of stomatological practice. But for the moment, the application of laser in stomatology is still in its infant days. So in world literature we find very few references to that practice. The authors wanted to get acquainted with the possibilities of the application of laser's knife of a new construction in practice of stomatology; further more, they tried to find out its advantages and disadvantages, and to determine the indications for a use of such a device. The test have been carried on the anatomical preparations of denture and jaw-bone, with a ND-YAG (Neodimic Yitrium-Aluminium Grain) laser. That device emits beams of coherent infra-red light in specter's area of 10.000 A. A laser was produced by Medilas firm. Laser's outgoing energy is 100 W. The beams are conducted through flexible optical filament to the exit. After a passage through flexible optical thread, the energy of radiation is 50 W, or quite enough for all planned interventions. The authors, using laser's knife have succeeded very precisely in provoking of a localised dissolving of enamel, and cutting of a tooth's part and alveolar bone. A manipulation with this type of laser's knife is very easy and practical owing to flexible optical thread. The very first experiments with this type of laser's knife are very encouraging.
