Abstract

Through the project Zagreb Digitized Heritage, the Zagreb Public Library has been digitizing old valuable materials from their collections of books, photographs, postcards, sheet music, sound recordings, etc. Digitized reproductions are described as electronic materials, cataloging records are made in the library system ZaKi, and the records of the originals and reproductions are connected to each other through the corresponding fields of UNIMARC format. Cataloguing description of digitized online audio material have caused some problems in the way in which UNIMARC format sets the coded characters for this type of records and brings them into context with other encrypted data. The analysis of the various formats of sound recordings have shown that the digitized online audio materials can be described as sound as well as electronics, and that the commitment to cataloging online materials as electronic resources is a matter of choice and decision.
