Abstract
After using the library management system FERLIB for seventeen years the Central Library of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (the FER Library) implemented a new system called Koha, which is a free open source integrated library management system. At the beginning of the paper the authors present the features of the previous library programme FERLIB. Then they present the four phases of the implementation process with the emphasis on the special problems of each phase. The aim of this work is to show the uniqueness of the process of introducing a new open source library management system, cooperation of the Central Library librarians with the system librarians of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Center for IT support staff, and also to show the possibilities of further development of the Koha library system for the FER Library needs, and finally to break down the prejudices about open source programs in library management systems.
