Abstract
More recent opinions about streptococcal infection in aphtous laesions, which show resistance to other treatment and the fact that some authors have achieved good results with lactobacilli culture (in vitro and in vivo) inhibiting the growth of certain kinds of bacteria und fungi motivated the authors to investigate clinically the yet not used kinds of lactobacilli (L. bifidus). 36 patients received treatment (10 male and 26 female) with marked aphtous laesions. Anamnestlicaly they had a long duration and great symptoms of pain. 30 patients showed an improvement with disappearence of pains in the beginning of the treatment. 9 cases could not be controlled, but the remaining 21 had their treatment finished and was under medical control. The pain as the main symptom disappeered has vanished, the ulcers showed fast covering with epithelium. The therapy has to be extended for 5 to 10 days. The big percentage of success (83%) although upon a small number of cases is in accordance with results of other authors, when using cultures of other lactobacilli.
