Abstract

The composite material Palakav was used for the restoration of anterior teeth with traumatic fractures and hypoplastic teeth in children 8 — 14 years old. The adhesion of Palakav is based upon its property to form a chemical bond with the collagen of dentin. In pulpotornized and pulpectomized teeth part of the root dentin was used, by driling a canal some millimeters deep and sufficiently wide, for additional retention of the restoration. This proved to be sufficient at later regular controls without the use of pins. In order to achieve sufficient adhesion without pins in vital teeth, where the surface of dentin at disposal for chemical bonding with the material is fairly restricted, the surrounding enamel was etched with a 50 percent solution of phosphoric acid prior to the application of Palakav. Since experiences up to one year old with part of the series are favourable it seems that the use of different types of pins can be avoided in vital teeth with this material.
