Abstract

Work on children involves a number of difficulties, visibly effecting the therapeutical intervention. Particularly drilling causes great difficulties. It is therefore necessary to plan thoroughly every single intervention and to reduce to the minimum the time a patient has to spend in the dentist's chair. Preparation of a cavity in deciduous and in permanent teeth with the classic drill took a considerable amount of time and we were therefore often unable to complete a certain preparation during one visit. The application of the Cardia drill which is a combination between a diamond and a carbide drill have made possible the preparations of cavities within the shortest possible time. These drills enable the dentist to undertake simultaneously two or three interventions necessary for the preparation of a cavity. This fact alone has proved to be a great advantage of the Cardia drill over the classic or the diamond drill.
