Abstract

Making use of their experience with the coherence of the laser bundle the authors have observed under experimental conditions the deformation of the teeth invisible to the naked eye. The method of work consisted in making subsequently two holographs on the same cholographic plate. The first was taken of the native tooth and the second of the same tooth which was weighed down by a lead plate as a result of which deformation occurred on the superficial layers of the dental tissue. Making use of the excellent coherence of the laser bundle the normal and the deformed tooth (due to pressure) mutually interfere, forming light and dark streaks over the picture of the object. The density of these streaks indicates the degree of deformation of the tooth. The closer the streaks are the greater is the deformation and vice versa, the wider the streaks the smaller the deformation. The report is to be considered preliminary, since further experiments are under way.
