Surgical—orthodontic treatment of diastema mediana with hypertrophical frenulum

Abstract

Comtemporary treatment of diastemae mediae with hypertrophical frenulum requires team work. Oral surgery should be performed before eruption of permanent canines in the way of a »V« excision or horizontal incision of interdental tissue and part of papila incisiva with or without corticotomy. Orthodontic treatment with mobile or fixed appliances, started after the stiches have been removed should assure contact of frontal teeth. A sufficiently long retention period before ending treatment is advised.
