Abstract
The esthetic component of the prosthetic replacement holds a special place in the treatment and is often the standard of subjective satisfaction respectively discontent of the patient. The aging look on a patient's face is not only the result of loss of tonus in the facial musculature, changes of the skin and a disturbed vertical relation of the jaws, but may be emphasized by a poor prosthetic replacement. The authors draw special attention to the elements which greatly help in chosing artificial teeth in their correct placement and which are often accessible. The use of pre-prosthetic elements must be a component part of each prosthodontic undertaking. One may say that the purpose of prosthodontic therapy is not only to produce a prosthetic replacement for lost teeth but from the functional and esthetic point of view this replacement must be a component part of the organism.
