Abstract

Prosthetic reconstruction of the mastication must include determination of the correct relationship between the upper and the lower, jaw. It is very important to decide in which vertical and antero-posterior relation the reconstruction is to be made. Special attention should be devoted to the proportions of the free interocclusion space äs it is often difficult to establish their initial extent. Diagnostical aids (temporary prostheses and bridge- work) are a useful way of clinically checking tolerance prior to definitive prosthetic treatment. The problems of occlusion are correctly solved only by application of biological principles and restoration of such relations between the upper and the lower jaw which will be tolerable for each.
