[Deposits of radioactive strontium in human teeth in Sarajevo]

Abstract

The way of penetrating into bone tissue, the accumulation and distribution of Sr90 is presented in the introduction. Some authors have tried to estimate the contamination of the skeleton through the contamination. Of he teeth, the problem, however, requires further investigations. Most authors have studied the quantity of the deposit and the distribution of Sr90 in the teeth. In the present study the amount of deposit in the extracted first molars and temporary teeth of children born in the period from 1950. to 1961. is reported. The teeth were extracted in the first half of 1966. in Sarajevo. The method according to Brynt (2) was applied for the chemical separation and determination of Sr90. The quantity of Sr90 in the first morals of children born in Sarajevo in the years from 1950. to 1958. was increasing from year to year to attain its peak in 1957—1958. The largest quantity, 5.80 to 7.76 pCSr90/oCa were found in the temporary teeth of children born in the period from 1957. to 1961.
