Abstract
In the introduction the author refers to the significance and role of oral rehabilitation as a special dental-medical branch according to the standpoint of well known authors in this field. He points out that oral rehabilitation achieves the rehabilitation of complex anomalies in the mouth and teeth. A critical survey of the possibility of classifying defects is offered, preference is given to grouping defects or practical reasons and or easier description of casse accarding to the dominant group of symptoms which characterizes each anomaly. Most of the article is taken up by the description of the author's case material and of the results which confirm his standpoint cited in the conclusion. The conclusions based on the presented cases are: — a definitive increase of the intramandibular space is best fixed by bridges, crowns and inlays, — crowns and bridges can be made to be morphologically modified, providing for sufficient undisturbed occlusion and articulation, — the psychologic (and other) advantages of fixed dentures over mobile ones in some indications in everyday practice come to the fore especially in the realm of oral rehabilitation, — the restitution of lost function and esthetic appearance by the application of a fixed denture brings about compensation of mental difficulties and endows the patient with a more self-assured approach to society, — fixed dentures are included in oral rehabilitation as an important factor in the combined »fixed-mobile« treatment, sometimes as an important adjunct of orthodontic treatment or independentli as an exclusive reconstructive discipline.
