[The influence of lighting upon the subjective perception of colour in the choice of nuances of colour for aesthetic crown and facets]
Zvonimir Kosovel
Abstract
The paper surveys critically the couses of the unsatisfactory results in the choice and laboratory composition of suitable nuances of colours when making aesthetic crowns and facete of acrile resins. Analysing the reasons for failure in imitating the nuances of colour of the natural teeth in individual cases, the author points to the effect of the different modern sources of lighting upon the subjective perception of colour and to the subjective factor of selection during the usual practical procedures. His claims are substantiated by documentation. In view of the inadequate optical properties of the materials available for the making of artifical teeth and the existing sources of lighting, the author recommends as a temporary measure of improvement in the choosing and composing of the nuances of colours that aesthetic crowns and facets of the bridges be made by one and the same person working by one and the same standard artificial light. Further investigations are in progress.
