Abstract

The possibility of checking the activity of the m. temporalis and masseter in patients with full upper and lower denture prosthesis was investigated. The group of examined patients comprised 19 women aged from 50 to 60 years who had been wearingdentures for a year at least. The method of electromyographie registration by means was the difference in strenght size of tne amplitudes of the registered signals at com- of cutanecus electrodes at various movements and position of the mandible was applied. A characteristical feature of the registered action potential of all examined subjects parison of the examinees under equal conditions. Data on the sinistro- and dextrolateral movements, propulsion or retropulsion could not be accurately interpreted .However, the registered action potential in the course of central occlusion showed in all examined subjects a congruence of the sums and amplitudes of the action potential with all four leads if the individual leads in the same patient are compared. It has been concluded on basis of the results obtained that the data furnished by electromyography can serve as objective measure for the purpose of determining whether the central occlusion has been accurately shaped.
