Abstract

The results of investigations in the effect of proteolytic treatment upon forms of inflammation of the paradontal tissues are presented.
Patients with gingivitis or paradontitis in both jaws were selected for the purpose. Trypsin treatment was applied on one jaw, the other one — in the same patient — was treated with placebo. The results have shown that: 1 ) Testing capillary fragility in the gingives demonstrated that the proteoly enzyme — in comparison with placebo — effected reduction of capillary fragility. 2) Examination of the ascorbic acid level by means of the fingual test indicated
that the level of ascorbic acid was slightly raised in the course of proteolytic enzyme, in coordination with the subsiding inflammation.
3) Measurements of the quantity of exudation from the parodontal »pockets« in case·, of parodontitis shawed exudation to be considerably reduced on applicatibn of trypsin. 4) Determination of pH values in the exudate from the parodontal pockets showed
that the exudate was slightly acidified du'ring trypsin treatment.
