Abstract

Abstract
Over the past few years, there has been a development in the quality of automatic transmission fluids, which has caused transmission manufacturers to change their recommendations referring to oil fill life and change intervals. Some leading European automatic transmission manufacturers have thus prolonged oil fill life from 30,000 to 60,000 km covered. Tests performed 7 years ago on Dexron II automatic transmission fluids used in the buses owned by the Zagreb public transportation company ZET have confirmed the former recommendations for oil fill change after 30,000 km covered. The purpose of the tests continued on the same quality automatic transmission fluid used in the buses of the same owner that have recently been completed was to explore the possibility of prolonging the oil fill life up to 60,000 km covered. The paper presents the results of laboratory tests performed on representative oil samples obtained from automatic transmission during exploitation at various previously determined intervals.
