Abstract

The paper deals with the factors which determine the scope of the participation of women in parliamentary decision-making. The scope depends, on the one hand, on self-organization of women (in the USA), and on the other on the intervention of the political agencies (the state, as is the case in socialist countries, or political parties, as is the case in western democracies). Without either, the percentage of women participating in politics is drastically reduced (which happened in countries in transition).
