Abstract

Introduction to Christianity in the early Church was effective in the institution of the catechumenate. With the increasing secularization and de-Christianization of society, the Church is again encountering people who do not know Christ. In recent years, in Slovenia the catechumenate for adults who wish to enter the Church has been reestablished. In the process of the reintroduction of the catechumenate, the Plenary Assembly, which accepts the guidelines of the Second Vatican Council and recent documents of the Universal Church on catechesis, has had an important role. Based on an in-depth analysis of the religious situation in Slovenia, it has provided guidance for Church activities in the coming years. Regarding the catechumenate, it recommends several changes, which are presented in detail by this article. The process of introducing the catechumenate for adults and the directives by the Slovenian Bishops’ Conference indicate that the Church in Slovenia is aware of the importance of introducing adults to Christianity and, faced with the challenges of secularization and de-Christianization, is seeking ways to enable adults to convert and grow in faith.
