Abstract

The education law in the Czech Republic requires university training for RE Teachers. Priests can teach catechism on the basis of evidence of completion of the study of theology. Recently in the Czech Republic interest amongst young people for studying to become RE teachers is decreasing. Under the influence of a reduced number of students attending religious education in public schools, the training offers no opportunity to obtain professional employment. Recently in the Czech Republic, the realization of religious education in the schools is coming under question. RE teachers are in practice Christians who truly believe, yet are very poorly interested in further training.
