Abstract

In Croatia, for career advancement in technical sciences, including the field of mapping sciences (in Croatian geodezija), it is necessary to publish a number of papers in journals indexed in Science Citation Index Expanded or Current Contents databases, whereby a certain number of papers have to be published in journals with impact factor (JIF) higher than the median of the subject category in which they are listed in the Journal Citation Reports database. Since these databases index 17 mapping sciences journals, only seven of which have impact factor greater than the median, surveyors, geodesists, cartographers and related professionals and scientists also have to publish their papers in journals other than mapping sciences journals. Therefore, we searched the Web of Science database and proposed 35 journals which are not mapping sciences journals but suitable for publishing mapping sciences topics. We proposed five GIScience journals, two journals in the field of remote sensing, 13 geographic journals, 13 journals in the field of metrology, civil engineering, transport, forestry and environmental sciences, as well as two computer journals. Eight of the proposed 35 journal are open access journals and full-text articles of 21 other journals are available to members of the Croatian academic and research community via the PERO online search engine.
