Abstract

The author reminds us why it is necessary to study the Bible in school, both in secular subjects and religious education. The Bible is associated with the roots of Europe and its identity. Studying and learning about the Bible also contribute to building a more humane and moral world. The criteria for the interpretation of the Bible, which is the source and offer of genuine human life, is Jesus. According to the teachings of the Old Testament prophets and Jesus Christ, in the center of moral life are love of God and neighbor, caring for the poor and fraternal forgiveness. European ethos has been emblazoned for the past two millennia by the Beatitudes and the Sermon on the Mount. The Bible is a critical voice of our civilization, as well as an essential mainstay of our culture, as evident in various branches of the arts, including music, literature, theater, film and human thought in general. The Bible is primarily a religious book and should be approached as such. In conclusion, the author enumerates goals that should be achieved and mentions the most recent guidelines of Church Magisterium and the fundamental educational requirements for the use of biblical texts in religious education in the school.
