Abstract
What is the attitude of today’s young people concerning choice, particularly the demanding choice regarding the future and living one’s own life? To what extent are they aware of the dangers that are inevitably connected with the decision that such a choice involves? What are the attitudes and styles of the young regarding decision making? What obstacles make the choice of a profession and calling in today’s culture difficult?
Research and studies in the areas of psychology and education have shown how difficult it is to interpret the formative educational journey for making choices in a cultural milieu characterized by uncertainty and risk. The issue of the choice of employment, particularly specific religious or priestly callings, should be viewed in the broad meaning of the issue of "choice."
Noting these factors may help teachers and all pastoral workers understand the complexity and difficulties of decision making today. At the same time, this can help them monitor and guide young people to manage the decision-making process as successfully as possible.
