Abstract

Robotics is a multidisciplinary field gathering in one place a lot of expertise, such as engineering mechanics, electrical engineering, IT, industrial engineering, ergonomics and marketing. Its enormous impact in post-industrial society affects also fields such as medicine, economics, sociology, philosophy and art. Robotics as technology is an attractive, challenging and imaginative discipline. Robots, like people, have gone through different generation cycles. Each new robot generation has been an improvement on the previous one, in particular in the achieved degree of intelligence, computing powers, dynamic indicators and advanced algorhythms in management and environment cooperation. However, not even today when robots are used in all production processes, can they operate without interaction with man.
Special focus should be placed on workplace safety in welding process. Industrial welding robots are most present in the automobile industry. Several safety systems contribute to this goal. The paper investigates worker safety, safety methods, types and principles behind safety systems and their operation, advantages and shortcomings of worker safety implemented in the process of industrial robot welding. The paper provides a list of standards in the field of safety and protection of workers working with industrial robots.
