Abstract

Sometimes it was popular to say that history is a teacher of life. Although this and many other sayings are rejected today as outdated and dysfunctional, we can still learn from the past. The impetus for this thinking is the six-volume "Pedagogical Encyclopedia" whose contributions still offer inspiring thoughts. The article recalls the interrelatedness of school religious education, parish catechesis and youth ministry and their pedagogical foundation and orientation. This confirms the specifications regarding education, the catechumenate and the apostolate. Acquaintance with these thoughts creates a valid basis for the promotion of these areas in the world today with a clear awareness of the need for continuous renewal. This is indeed expressed in the reviewed texts that emphasize the need for lifelong education and learning, with due respect to specific areas. All have in common, however, efforts to promote the education of mature and adult personality.
