The Bible and the Christian Initiation of Children and Families

Abstract
The article deals with the introduction of children and families to the Christian faith. The author specifically refers to the place and role of the Bible in the process. After reminding us that it is impossible to understand Christianity without the Bible, the author recalls that the Bible encourages and invites people to conversion, and to accept the proclamation of the good news. While reading the Bible, the Christian is introduced to the events that God has done and adopts the appropriate words, signs and gestures, follows Jesus, realizes his word and enters into dialogue with the Trinitarian God. In order to encouraged someone to encounter the Bible, biblical catechesis is essential. The article gives special attention to the place and role of the Bible in contemporary parish catechesis, which is very catechumenal in Italy directed. This is apparent in the new catechetical manuals for parish catechesis. Finally, the article shows how the Bible can be used in various catechetical phases along with other new catechetical aids. The article concludes with an overview of biblical content throughout the various catechetical phases.
