Abstract
today one cannot imagine successful pastoral activities without relevant planning. in the last few years we have researched, within the Church in slovenia, how to start the process of pastoral
planning at all church levels. there was no doubt that we needed a process, not just a document. pastoral planning is a process in which, on the basis of current situation, anticipated events and desired state in the future, we decide on future pastoral tasks. organizational sciences roughly divide planning in: strategic and operational planning. in this paper we will show the phases of strategic pastoral planning, on the basis of planning experiences within the Church in slovenia, literature on planning in non- church organizations, and literature on the experiences in austria and germany, where by the end of the last century the development of pastoral and personal plan massively started. on the basis of the mentioned critical analysis we have realized that in the process of strategic pastoral planning at least seven phases are necessary (naturally, with prayer in the first plan, as required by church sources) and these phases are treated in this paper.
