Abstract

post-modern rationality is defined as rhetorical rationality in the scientistic paradigm of verification/falsification binomial in the context of historicism which in the process of determining the truth does not recognize anything beyond-historical. pareyson’s philosophy does not reject rhetorical rationality and historical conditioning of determining the truth and philosophizing, but, starting from the transcendence of infinite as a condition of possibility of philosophizing and of “revelatory thought”, does not accept that paradigm. in the article, by comparative method, comparing pareyson’s and vattimo’s, teacher’s and student’s, approach to the truth, the arguments of both of them are confronted. While for vattimo the issue of truth is just a rhetorical question and “nothing more”, pareyson, starting from the ontology of the inexhaustible, thinks that truth is a rhetorical issue, and, not rejecting its historical conditioning and manifestations, unlike his student, pareyson holds the truth is “a little more” than mere rhetorical contest and language game and persuasion, because its source is beyond-historical, in inexhaustible being, given through the language.
