Abstract

The Web can reach its full potential only if the data on a website can be accessed, processed and shared; and that is why the semantic web is fully focused on establishing interoperability. This paper researches the possibility of establishing data interoperability of library and lexicographical records. The introduction provides a short overview of the basic features of the semantic web and several projects through which the library community got involved in the semantic cloud. The second part of the paper researches the possibility of applying the FRAD model on the UNIMARC authority records for the person and on the biographical entries in the Croatian Encyclopaedia (CE) of the Institute of Lexicography. The analysis resulted in building the conceptual model which could be the basis for establishing the interoperability of data records between these two communities.
