Abstract

The point of departure of Pareyson’s discourse on evil is the critique of the previous philosophical discourse on this topic, which does not consider the ontological dimension of the problem. Pareyson finds an appropriate language to treat the problem of evil in the hermeneutics of myth and religious experience. Thanks to this hermeneutics he comes to the idea, that the being of evil has its roots in freedom and ultimately in God. God is for Pareyson the absolute freedom, which has chosen her own existence. To do this freely, it was necessary to have an alternative. This alternative is the evil, which remains in God as a rejected possibility. The man wakes up this possibility and leads it in the world history. In this hermeneutical context suffering plays the role of a dialectical power, which leads to the inversion of evil. At this point Pareyson develops a philosophical Christology, which leads him to the analysis of the eschatological faith in the final overcoming of evil in the moment of the apocatastasis and to the idea, that suffering is the place of the solidarity between God and men.
