Abstract

Th is is an attempt to answer the question of whether the philosophy of parental upbringing and education is a family or a social concern and whether there is a need for changing the current paradigms in the education of young and pre-school aged children. Th e author draws attention to the need for a holistic and interdisciplinary approach when researching the child’s early development and education, as well as for a scientific verification of the paradigms referred to in this paper that are related to: the child’s early learning and the role of parents in that process, the preparation of parents for responsible parenting, in particular their social responsibility, government policy on informing parents about the eff ects of particular educational philosophies, and partnership as a paradigm in the contemporary conception of early development and education. In this paper, the author emphasises the need to change the paradigms in the early development and education of children and to direct parental activity towards such forms of education which will enable the child to successfully function in the current moment and gain competencies for the future.
