Abstract

In order to detect enamel caries 2,000 approximal surfaces of premolars and molars have been examined in 50 examinees aged 18 to 20 years, using clinical and radiological methods (bite-wing or interproximal projection). A total of 257 approxiimal enamel lesions have been detected. All the clinically visible lesions have been confirmed by radiological examinations. As many as 186 of these lesions have been detected by radiological examination only (72% of the total) and the remaining 71 by both clinical and radiological examination (28% of the total number of lesions). A testing of the clinical and radiological results has revealed a statistically significant difference (t = 12.4, P < 0.05).
